British Style Sausage Rolls

These savory sausage rolls will make you feel like you are in England.  Valarie’s signature sausage rolls have become a crowd favorite here at the house. These sausage rolls are elevated by the aromatic flavors of the fennel, thyme and sage.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb of sweet or pork breakfast sausage
  • 1 – Two pack box of Pepperidge Farms Puff Pastry
  • 2 – Eggs divided (one for sausage mixture and one for puff pastry egg wash)
  • 2  Tbs of fresh chopped sage
  • 2 Tbs of fresh chopped parsley
  • 1 tsp of fennel seed
  • 1/2 tsp of fresh chopped thyme
  • 1/2 tsp of garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp of onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp of seal salt
  • 1/2 tsp of pepper
  • 1 Tbs of water

Instructions

  • Defrost puff pastry according to package directions.

  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees.

  • Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper, set aside.

  • In bowl mix together sausage, 1 egg, thyme, parsley, onion powder, garlic powder, salt and pepper. 

  • Separate into 3 equal parts.

  • On a floured surface unfold your pastry dough and gently roll out a little bit so it gets a little thinner then cut into 3 long rectangle sections.

  • Place sausage down the center of each section leaving an inch or so of pastry on either side.

  • Bring sides together and pinch to seal and pat down slightly, repeat with remaining sausage and dough.

  • Slice the top with a knife to create venting holes.

  • Place sausage rolls 2 inches apart on prepared baking sheet.

  • In a small bowl whisk together egg and water and then brush on tops of the sausage rolls and bake in oven for about 15-20 minutes until pastry is puffed and tops are golden.

  • Allow to cool and cut each into thirds.

  • Enjoy with a big smile!
